Benjamin Gumpert began his military career following the acts of terror on September 11, 2001, joining the US Army at the age of 17. He initially enlisted in the Military Police Corps and served as a member on a Special Reaction Team as both an Entry Team member and Marksman/Observer.

Seeking additional challenges, he was later selected and trained as a Special Forces Communications Sergeant, dedicating himself to a career in Special Operations. He has served in multiple theaters, executing numerous high stakes missions in Iraq and the Congo.

Benjamin has trained numerous U.S. Special Operations forces alongside International Tier 1 Operators and Special Forces units from around the world, including the distinction of being the youngest individual to serve as a Primary Instructor at Special Forces Advanced Reconnaissance, Target Analysis, and Exploitation Techniques Course, commonly known as Range 37.

Before retiring, the last chapter of Benjamin’s military career was in the Human Performance Development shop at Fort Bragg, contributing to the enhancement of soldiers' mental and physical performance.

Benjamin earned his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu in September 2022 under Professor Michael Donvito. Benjamin also studies Sayoc Kali under Tuhon Tom Kier, and Judo under Sensei Austin Hansen.

He opened Reflection Jiu-jitsu in 2023 to create a space where training can be an ongoing conversation between participants, with the goal of helping every student find the best expression of their own jiujitsu.

Outside of his military and training endeavors, Benjamin has been happily married to his wife Julia for over a decade. Together, they spend as much time as possible outdoors, sharing adventures with their two sons.
